Thomas, who has been in the news in recent weeks as he battles felony charges alleging he illegally used campaign funds, announced on Twitter at approximately 11 p.m. on Wednesday morning that he was treated for the flu.

“Mayor Thomas was treated at an area hospital for flu-like symptoms and released after amazing care from the medical team. He extends his deepest thanks and gratitude for the quality care from the doctor and nurses who zapped the viral bug out of his system,” they posted. “As the flu season gets underway, Mayor Thomas urges all to get a flu shot, drink water, and frequently sanitize your hands to fight germs to stay healthy.”

On Instagram, Thomas even posted a picture his son drew for him while he was laid up in the hospital.

“My son drew this for me after I battled a viral bug in the hospital this evening,” Thomas posted. “He said superheroes have strengths and weaknesses like normal people. ‘Get better so you continue beating the bad guys like Spiderman!’ #lovemykids & thanks to the doctor and nurses who got me back on my grind to keep MV going!”

Earlier this year, Thomas was charged following an investigation which exposed that he allegedly stole $12,900 from his campaign committee and diverted more than $45,000 from his inaugural committee for personal use and failed to disclose that information to officials.

Thomas was charged with third-degree grand larceny and two counts of third-degree ordering a false instrument for filing, all felonies. He was also charged with two counts of second-degree offering a false instrument for filing, misdemeanors.
